...Misplaced trust
Mr. & Mrs. Tony & Julie Walton from Oldbury needed a roof installing, UPVc fascia & guttering and cladding, they called Roofline for a quote from the Thomson Local directory. They also got two other quotes, one similar to our quote and one that was approx. £1250.00 cheaper. They decided to go with the cheaper option thinking they will save money.
Mr. & Mrs. Walton suffered leaks to ceilings in all bedrooms, the bathroom ceiling collapsed and damp patches effecting their decor since commissioning the cheaper company, at the same time they also asked for a few other jobs to be carrid out. One being a new electric shower unit to be fitted, it was fitted by a non-corgi registered fitter by the same Building & Roofing company, (potentially a very dangerous thing to do as electrics have been tampered with) - it eventually leaked!
They ultimately paid again for a new roof which was unfortunate, this all could have been avoided by asking more questions, seeing more examples of their previous jobs and ascertaining their necessary credentials.
Roofline were called back because of our professional approach and detailed quotation first time round and the future guarantees we offered. We were happy to re-install a new roof for them as the previous company had made some glaring oversights & mistakes, they used ‘seconds’ and sub-standard materials and generally cut many corners - all of which have now been expertly rectified for them along with a complete replaster and repainted High quality finish.
The first thing we did was to fix the leaking shower as this was a danger to the family and scaffold the whole of their property for Health & Safety reasons.
Mr. & Mrs. Walton are now very happy with their new roof and the extra repairs they have had to have... All in all, the whole experience has cost them many thousands more than we had originally quoted first time.
We thank Mr. & Mrs. Walton for their cooperation in allowing us to feature their problematic story in our brochure and to make others aware of the implications of their actions in just choosing the cheapest quotes - and not considering what problems might manifest themselves thereafter!
Roofline explains:
“When spending what may be a considerable amount on a roof, cost sometimes can be mis-leading. A roof or a conservatory or a loft conversion or even a driveway MUST be done properly. We offer guarantees, quality materials and very little fuss to the customer... sometimes we are shocked by the poor workmanship of some companies when we have to put it right, we say please let it not be you - be careful in your choices.”

Mr. Walton’s recommendation:
“Firstly, I must thank Roofline for getting us out of our bad situation!
In hindsight we cut corners by going for the cheapest quote. We chose a cheaper company but it has come back to bite us severly - in the future It will be a lot more selective in who I choose for anything.
We have learnt a valuable lesson. It has cost us considerably more than we initially budgeted, many thousands in fact, but we needed the roof to be done properly and we are now happy with the end results. My wife and I are embarrassed by it all but chose to high light the perils of having major work done on your own property. If anything we have learnt it is that you MUST be prepared to invest your house when it is needed and not cut corners!
